Ian W Blewitt began collecting matchbox labels in 1949 and several years later joined BML&BS.  During the time of his membership he exhibited labels and won the Society Essay Cup for three consecutive years.  He held the positions of Bookshop Manager, Beginners’ Advisor and Postal Auctioneer.  He gave many local illustrated talks about the hobby. Ian’s main interest was labels with the word “Three” on them in English and he issued a three part list of these (1962, 63, 64).  This was later expanded to a single volume, an illustrated listing being published in 1995 and a History of Cornish Match Company in 2000.
