Torrey Canyon
The gigantic tanker carrying 118,000 tons of crude oil tore into the Seven Stones reef on 18th March 1967 at her full speed of 17 knots, ripping a hole 650ft long in her side. She broke her back in the heavy seas, thousands of tons of oil escaped from her to cause untold damage to the bird and sea life around the coast.
